.30 CAL 200 GR. SBT GAMEKING

Anyone using the Sierra 200gr .308 SBT Gameking’s? Site search only brings up the HPBT’s, any real world feedback on these?

Would be shooting them out of a .308.

Very accurate in 30-06 and 300magnum.
I've shot alot of big game with it. It's not Barnes x bullet performance on game but it's fair chunk of lead and does a good job. Very accurate.

I've had really good results with the 165 gr. and they're dead nuts accurate out of my Ruger. I've yet to have a need for such a heavy bullet but if circumstances ever permit, I'd love to do a moose hunt.

I've used them in my 300 Win mag. Good accurate bullet, but they are long and may take up a lot of case room in a 308 if you have a short throat or magazine. JMO

Thanks for the reply’s, saw a couple boxes on sale and might have to order some. Don’t have a .30 cal magnum currently but that might change this season, thought I’d try them in some .308’s in the meantime.

Any issues with expansion in .308 velocities, Sierra mentions they are fine in .308 but if not I’ll stick to shooting targets. Price was too good to not buy.

With normal bullets like say 165g hpbt Sierra they will blow apart close range with magnum velocities on big game.
The 200g gameking is bigger and slower. Holds together more than lighter bullets up close at faster velocities.
The 200g really shines as a accurate long range bullet . It expands at very long range with 30-06 and 300magnum so I don't see why it wouldn't work with 308 Winchester

The Sierra Game King bullets are "old school" cup and core bullets and some folks claim they are too frangible.

At "magnum velocities" they just might be, especially when used 50 yds and under.

If you're going to shoot them at moderate velocities, say 2800fps or slower, they hold up very well, even if they hit big bones.

I used to use them in a 308 Winchester, Mod 70 Winchester, with a 22 in bbl, loaded to 2200 fps, because it seems to be a "sweet spot" for accuracy with this bullet in just about any cartridge.

I used 50 grains of IMR7828 over CCI 250 primers in the 30-06 case.

In the 308 Win case I used 46 grains of IMR7828 over CCI250 primers

In both rifles, with 22in bbls, these loads gave me 2200fps +- consistently and produced close to match grade accuracy on paper targets.

The recoil was noticeable but very easy, even for a recoil sensitive type to handle.

These loads shot very tight groups right out to 300yds but

200 grain bullet trajectory at 2200fps It was appx 4 inches low at 150 yds and 28 inches low at 300 yds, but sub moa groups right out to 300, from a bench of course.

If you're hunting where your shots aren't likely to past 200yds and you're sure of the range, these relatively mild loads, with the heavy bullet are surprisingly effective.

Cheers, sounds like I should pick some up. I plan on buying a 300WM at some point this year anyway.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I've never used the 200 SGK, but generally Sierra are very good shooting bullets. A 200gr from a 308 Win will not shoot as flat as lighter 180 or 165gr weights, but the ballistic coefficient of the 200gr is quite high, which will help downrange. Velocity will probably be in the 2400 fps ballpark at the muzzle, it will work very well on game out to 200 yards, but you could stretch it out to 300-400 yards in a pinch

I only use 200gr in my 308 for a closer range bear load, using the blunter shaped Lapua Mega bullet.

Have used these with good success. Exclusively in .300 Win Mag. Good terminal performance on deer, moose. Accurate. My rifle prefers H2000 with these bullets.

H2000 reloading powder?? Never heard of it. Do you mean Alliant MR2000 or H1000 and it was a typo.

MR2000 is quite fast for this bullet in a 300 Win Mag.
