.30 cal bullets

If you are asking if you can load .308" diameter bullets in a 30-06 case then yes. Actually that is the ONLY diameter you should use.

If however you are asking if you can fire a .308 Winchester cartridge in your 30-06 chambered rifle than the answer is no.

Hi there noody question can i load .308cal bullets in my .30-06?

Yes, and don't pay any attention to these clowns.

It is true that .308 caliber bullets are the ONLY type you want to be using.

Depending on what type of shooting you have in mind, you have a broad choice of bullet weights (in grains) to choose from.

My non-expert choices:

For light game at longer ranges a 150 - 165 grain (antelope)

Medium game a 165 - 180 grain (deer)

Large game a 180 - 220 grain (elk, moose)

I think the 220 grain bullets would afford a small degree of comfort if hunting large game in grizzly country.

If you are shooting a Garand it is best to stick with the 150 -152 grain bullets. It is what the rifle was designed for. I have heard 180 gr. bullets (or larger) damaging the op rod due to different gas pressures created in the system.

For all-around use I like the 180 grain bullets. They have good accuracy and can get the job done.

Cheers!

except for the guy who said 270, all the rounds mentioned use 308 bullets. I've read both my manuals cover to cover about 3 times, don't worry rich, by the time I actually get around to loading a round, it'll be at least a couple dozen.

Hopefully you are looking at a reloading manual. The books will give you the diameter of the bullet to use for reloading any calibre. Simply check the spec for .308 and 30-06 and if the bullet dia is the same then it is ok. If you are not using a manual of some kind then get one now!

X2!! Read it again, and carefully. In addition, you may want to get an experienced friend to mentor you through the initial steps of reloading.

I was going to make about the same comment.
Christ if the guy doesn't even know what bullet diameter is for the bore size of the rifle he's handloading for... perhaps a little knowledge gained 1st from reading is in order :runaway:

Please do some more reading before you start reloading!

30-06 is a 30 cal rifle made in 1906 hence "30-06" all 30 calibre's use .308 diameter boolits!

I want to believe that the message must have hit home by now......

If not, then laziness cannot excuse for ignorance.

Worse than everything, if the individual try to load for a service rifle w/o good knowledge ( i.e. M1 Garand.......) he may blow the gun and his face as well.

I understand Tod Bartell works in a gun store. Ask him how many times someone has come in and wanted to buy a 306!
