30 cal F-Class open shooters

Ya that should be a good node. Rl-33 is a little dirty and hard on barrels since its double based. You might want to try something like H-1000 for its cooler burning and see if in a 30inch barrel if you can still get the speed your after. Im going to say rl33 is going to build alot of heat over a 17 round string. But you wont know till you try it. It might start stringing up as it gets hot.

Keep in mind guys that F Class is not a group size game. It's a scoring ring game.

That being said, when a bullet breaks the line, it goes to the higher value.

All other things being equal, the 30 call by virtue of diameter alone will on this basis produce better scores.

Key point is all things being equal, which they are not.

The energy required to push the heavy 308 round translates to mechanical stress on the system and the shooter. This makes accuracy more difficult to maintain over a weekend of shooting.

I helped spec out a wild cat for a buddy of mine so he could run the 220 to 240 grain bullets using around 80 grains of powder. He admitted to it being hard to take, but for the rest of us on the line it was just as bad and nobody wanted to shoot with him.

Just understand these big guns can be hard to tolerate over a weekend of shooting even if you can shoot it well in small shooting sessions.

Another point is that long range shooting is much like golf. You need a rifle for every shot.

What I mean by this is that big high BC bullets have the greatest advantages in high wind or a fast switchy wind with overcast conditions making mirage hard to read.

In calm or predictable conditions, the smaller rounds usually outperform the big hammers because its an accuracy game.

I've known guys to run a 6BR at 300, 500 and 600, then switch to something bigger for the long range stuff.

Thank you for all the great info, much appreciated

Thanks for your input, you know what they say about the word assume !

I shoot 3-5 days a week recreationally when Im off work which is about 6 months a year so I have an idea about how to pull a trigger, most of my shooting out to a 1000 yards is with hunting rifles that weigh 6-9lbs scoped so Im sure this F-Class stuff will be a little different but Ill give it a whirl.

I do have a wood stocked 6CM built on a Carl Gustaf model 1900 target rifle with a JC custom barrel that fits into your mindset !

Sorry for the late reply ?

are you on the Canadian national team ?

If so we may have crossed path

May be Diggles or Bisley ?

Sorry to assume you are just starting out but a season open shooting never worry about a build

I always have builds ongoing for at least 2 seasons ahead

i am just an old piece of driftwood from across the pond.

No and no where in my original post did I assume anything of the sort as Ive never even been to an F-Class shoot, you did offer some great info/advice and I thank you for that, but WTF difference does it make to you what I buy for rifle parts but hey obviously its a thorn in your ass....not sure why, and if your talking builds Im on about number 60 if it really matters and I have 4 going right now but again none of that matters, I did say that I probably would only be shooting recreationally with a buddy and not competitively so thanks for the verbal chastising

In the end I only really asked if there were any 30 cal F-Open shooters on here and any thoughts about scope rings...but hey your the one that took exception to my post ? if you can't contribute anything in a positive manner stay the phuck off my thread

Are you all THERE ? :onCrack: RJ

Now I understand why you guys get whacked when on the international stage

Lol the Canadains usually get whacked on the international stage because of the climate we live in. We get to shoot maybe 8 months of the year compared to countries like Australia and the Americans where they can shoot year round.

2013 World Championships Raton, NM.... Cdn FTR team wins Silver

US shooter win FTR individual World Title with a Cdn designed bipod

Cdn in the top positions in FTR .. dont remember Open

2017 Worlds Championships Ottawa, ON.... Cdn Open team wins Silver
Open winner at the Cdn Nationals which preceded the Worlds was Cdn
Not sure on FTR but expect a few Cdns in the top ranks at that event

US State championships have been won by Cdns

NRA records have been set by Cdns

Top 10 finishes at the Berger SW Nationals have been placed by Cdns

The genesis for most of the FTR bipod designs used globally was invented by a Cdn.

I think Cdns do ok in the F class world.... it is afterall a game created by a .... CANADIAN.
