.30 cal Neck sizing question (.308 vs 300wsm)

Been searching for a while now with google and on these forums for an answer but can't find a clear one.

I recently switched to 300wsm and have already acquired a set of Hornady new dimension FL resizing and seater dies. I plan on FL resizing all my brass for the first firing, then once everything is fire formed in my new chamber, I then want to neck size with a Lee collet neck sizing die for it. A 300wsm specific neck die may be out there somewhere, but the .30 cal or .308 version by Lee is readily available.

So question is....can I use the .308 Lee collet neck sizing die for my 300 wsm as they are the same diameter and the die only resizes the neck?

No - with those dies, cartridge length is critical.

You can use a 300 WSM F/L die to neck size all 308 cal cartridges tbough.

that is what i am wondering..I have not used a Lee collet die before so I am not sure how much room a .308 neck die has

Thanks for that info..sounds like I will have to find a cal specific then.

I have been reading about using the FL die for neck sizing only. I guess my desire to use the Lee was how I understand it used the collet to do its resizing versus the typical cone shaped expander. Seem to hear a lot of good things about the way the Lee works

You don't need to resize virgin brass, just use the expander to fix the dented necks.
