So I was browsing youtube and I came across a video of a guy shooting 55grn .223 bullets out of a 300 win mag and getting crazy velocities (around 5000fps) using these .30 cal sabots. On some other videos people were using these with .308 win and 30-06 getting 4000+ fps and I was wondering if anyone has come across these in Canada or if anyone has experience using them and how accurate are they.

Horrible accuracy. I had a box of .30-30 and .30-06 Rem accelerators. Not for targets but probably ok for 100 yd prairiedogs.

The only rifle I could get them to shoot well out of was a Hunter Bench Rest rifle built specifically for 135 grain, flat base, spitzer bullets, in a 1-15 twist barrel.

I believe the faster twists of the other 30 cal barrels I tried them in were causing them to spin to fast for good accuracy.

As for prairie dogs at 100 yards???? The only rifle that would do so reliably would have been the HBR.

I've often thought of how they would work in some of the rifles chambered for the 7.62x39. Some 30-30, especially the Marlins with micro groove rifling really do well with them.

I didn't think anyone was making them anymore.

TURF THE LIBERALS IN 2019

Liberals really like POOR people, they're making more of them every day

If you can't vote CPC, stay at home in protest

Looks like there's a couple companies in the US making the sabots and selling them for between 12-15.00 usd/100. I wonder if better accuracy results could be had hand loading compared to the Remington factory stuff.

I bought a ton of them way back when we could on ebay, factor the price into the price of a box of .224 bullets and you might as well buy .308 bullets, the novelty of the speed wears off when the results of the inaccuracy are compiled, the speed is cool, but not knowing where that fast bullet is going kind of ruins it

I helped a friend load these perhaps 15 years ago. Accuracy was not that bad, if I remember about 2" @ 100 yards. Perhaps he just got a lucky load that performed in his bolt rifle but it worked ok. His thoughts were to load some for coyotes that showed up during a deer hunt. I doubt he ever actually used them though.

Like many, I tried .30/06 Remington Accelerators when they first came out; I'm not a fan. Perhaps handloads can be made a bit better, but for the intended purpose of a .22 caliber bullet at 4000 fps , 2" groups aren't the answer to anyone's question.
