Just curious what others use for deer,
What is your PERSONAL prefered velocity for hunting deer?
What is your minimum terminal velocity requirement?
What do you prefer for alloy?

I harvested my deer past year with a noe311-199fn (201gr checked and lubed) wqww bullet going 1695fps at the muzzle (gives 2moa from a good rest) will be using it again next year. Shot measured 90 yards from where i stood to where the deer was hit (broke both shoulders, drt, exit wound i could stick my thumb into).

The caliber of slug I am using basically dictates what speed their being sent at. The last deer I shot with a .30 cal was a .30 cal. carbine that requires a certain velocity to work the action reliably and that is around 1700 fps in my gun (115 gr and killed two deer at 100 yrs or less) .

My 38-55 or 38-56 are traveling at 1500 fps and both have killed at least one deer each.

My 45-70's that I use for hunting are all traveling 1100-1200 fps (350-430 gr) and I have killed several deer from 85 yrds out to 245 yrds with 100% success and have never been able to recover a slug from any of them, all complete pass-thu's.
