30 grn Varmit Grenade and 22-250

Anyone know why Barnes website does not list data for the 30 grn for 22-250? They list data for the 36 grn. Other caliber, i.e. 22 Hornet have data for the 30 grn bullet.

Probably because Barnes lists the 30 grain bullet as a Hornet specific weight. Why not shoot the 36 grain bullet instead? Plenty of info for it. I use the 50 grain varmint grenade in my 22-250 and it shoots extremely well but I do have a 1:10 twist barrel.
 
It's a Hornet specific bullet that can't handle the force a 22-250 would apply to the bullet at 4500+ fps. The fast muzzle velocity is attractive, but they shed it quickly

22-250 w/ 36gr Barnes VG @ 4350 fps would retain 3576 fps @ 100y, and 2350 fps @ 300y. Wind deflection per 1mph crosswind at 300y would be 1.3"

with 40gr Vmax @ 4200 fps, 100y = 3630 fps, 300y = 2680 fps / 0.97" wind deflection per mph (25% better than 36gr VG)

55gr Vmax @ 3750 fps, 100y = 3340 fps, 300y = 2625 fps / 0.84" wind deflection per mph (13% better than 40gr Vmax, 35% better than 36gr VG



Light isn't always the best option

Barrel burner, why bother?

40 gr boolits at 4200 isn't fast enough..

I bet they hold together at over 4000.. same design as the 26gr. Bullets produced for the 204 ruger.

Given i had the shoulder reamed out , longer to get a taller shoulder, essentially creating more case capacity. I can drive those 30 gr boolits to 3300 with a stiff load of H110..


I would try them at .223 velocities, limiting range to 75 yards.
Would make a great gopher popper ,

Hornady NTX 35 gr. Lists max speed at 4500 fps.
35gr and 40 gr VMAX at 4400 fps.
I shoot the 40gr nosler varmagedon out of a 220 Sw whistling out the barrel at 4300 and change.
1 - 14 twist is a must .. what twist is you tika?
 
I can tell you from personal experience why not.

About 75 meters in front of the muzzle they start to come apart instantly, especially with 1-8 twist rate barrels. You can get away with them in a 22-250 but you have to keep their velocities below 3000fps.

I used to shoot a 22-250. I found the 60 gr HP bullet very accurate, held velocity to longer ranges, drifted less in the wind, and hit with authority.

You are shooting a ping pong ball, when a golf ball would be better.
