I recently acquired a contender barrel in what I believe to be 30 REECE. I had a cast of the camber done and that is what it appears we are working with. The barrel is simply marked 30R. Would anyone have information on loads for this round or even on where to get dies for it. There are mentions of Carson Reese on other forums and I had tried the latest contact info I could find as apparently he sold Headstamped brass and dies as well as load info. No response from him or Hornady who made the brass.

It is a, depending on what you read, 38 spl or 357 mag necked down to 30 cal. with 4 degree body taper.
Any info would be appreciated. Loading data, die or brass source. Past experience with it etc.

The link below will take you to an ammo collectors page and there is a picture of the Reece there.

Next try is MGM as I believe they are still chambering barrels.

Thanks

You'll be pretty much on your own here, but I suggest that 30 Carbine loads will be a good place to start, as the two will have very similar case capacities.

To form brass, I'd take the 357 mag brass and neck it down to 30 cal using 30 Mauser or 7.62X25 Tokarev dies. Then trim to 1.165"

If you decide to abandon thoughts of forming brass, the barrel could probably be rechambered to something like 30-30 or 7.62X39.

Brass you'll likely have to make. There's data on Handloads.com posted by the guy from Reece Customs, who apparently developed the thing. He says it is made by trimming a .357 Mag. to 1.165" or .38 Spl. case. with a .004" taper using Hornady dies. Most likely custom made just like the way you'll have to go.
Anyway, there was a post on another forum giving the guy's contact info. Says he's been waiting on Hornady for brass for a year as of last December. You try the e-mail address on Old Ammo?

I Have tried two email addresses.
'reececustoms@embarqmail.com' for which I got no response at all.

'reececustoms@earthlink.net' came Back as undeliverable.

CH4D dies list different 30-357 dies with shoulder angles from 25 to 40 degrees. They also have form dies. Are these going to be worth a try?
