30 TC cartridge

I shoot its off spring,...... the 6.5 CM.

Kinda intriguing the start of the short barrel rifle craze from the Thompson contender. I keep looking at the MRX bison, and the thought of a bolt action short rifle like that has peeked interest over here.

Nope. Basically a ackley 308 with a fast twist. Optimized for long and heavy vld bullets, with proprietary blended powders it's faster.than 30-06.

Early 2000's it was more powder, capacity, and send conventional bullets as.fast as possible. The 30tc was designed to send target and hybrid bullets more accurately. The first look down a rabbit hole, that's brought use almost all of.the new cartridges designed in the last 15 years. Imagine the 30tc departs, or closer....not as.refined as those that followed. The recoil would not likely allow watching the fall of shot found so useful on creedmore cartridges.

Here’s the thing Bud it’s JUST a necked up 6.5 Creedmoor . It has less powder capacity than a 308 win so it can only send a bullet faster by over pressuring it . RJ

I didn't get that either. They must be running quite hot. 308 Win SAAMI max is 62k PSI.

The geometry of making sure you can load long heavy bullets in a short action is one we all hear a lot about now though haha.

Doesn't the 30TC have the same 12 twist as the 308 vs the 10 twist of the 30WCF and 30-06?

I don't see one advantage over the 308 and the only advantage the 308 has over the 30-06 is if you want a Savage 99.

Lots of 308 s can have a 10 twist but twist hardly changes bullet speed . PRESSURE will change speed thou in those EQUAL sized cases . RJ

Probably a reason it never made waves.
Shorter slightly fatter 308 with a sharper shoulder...who cares?
Can only buy factory ammo to get near the speeds? Again, big fail, you can't reinvent the wheel, powder works like powder, there is no magic to it, if they get that speed it's from pressure, nothing else, ridiculous claim it beats 30/06 with 150's to the handloader even then.
Good try at marketing, but nobody cared, until the Creedmoor, phases, then it worked, but same thing, pressure is velocity, I could give 2 ####s how fancy they claim the brass design is, you are not going to get speed without pressure.

Pretty Much ! Factory ammo hardly ever gets its advertised FPS I have Lab Radared lots over the years . One of the WORST IS 7mm REM ammo !
Really pisses Guys off at the range when my 30-06 Hand loads are a 150 fps faster ! Lol RJ

Still the 30 TC is a Kool little cartridge that should rival a 308 ! And work well in a true short action . RJ

30TC would be nice in a Contender pistol with 14" barrel I imagine, the 7mm TCU was built for silhouette plate dropping, 30 would be the same deal with a bit more power at the expense of recoil.
Nothing groundbreaking in rifle cartridges

I have seen some crazy slow 30-06 factory ammo. Sako 180 gr. Also sako 100 gr 243. Accurate but slow.

Seems like the proverbial answer to a question nobody asked.

That's true, but there are dozens of cartridges out there that overlap with others.

It's probably a good case for a lightweight short action deer rifle, but nothing a 300Savage won't do already.
