.30 us same as 30.06 ?

----So my buddy has been going through the stuff at his late fathers guiding/trapping camp and found a full ammo can marked .30 us and he says it looks like 30.06.
I will find out how many in the can, he says it is all linked with every 3rd round a tracer, what would this be for, is it worth anything and can this be fired from any 30.06 ?

By rights .30 US should be 30-40 Krag, but being that its linked and looks like 30-06 thats likely what it is.

Yes, can be used in any .30-06 weapon, and worth shooting ammo price.

Every forth round should be a tracer and if he uses it at a hunting camp use it when there is snow on the ground as during the summer they can start fires very easily.
