I have a barrel for a 300 AAC Blackout that was on a bolt gun.

I have a receiver from an old rolling block currently with 30 British (303 case with a 308 projectile) barrel, which I am thinking of converting.

Just thinking about the presssure.

Does anyone have an real experience with this? Not expecting any.
Does anyone have a valid reason not to do this? Other than too much pressure.

Let's try to keep it civil.

Sounds like a bit of a bad idea. Unless its a post-1900 Smokeless Rolling Block, I would not attempt this. Having said that, the little .223 case likely has less backforce than a 45-70, 8x60 or .303 British. Also keep in mind that when a rolling block fails it does so in such a way that greatly emperils the user.

The firing pin would likely need to be bushed.
I have a definite weak spot for fools errand projects like this, but would probably stick with a low pressure round like it was designed for....
What model of rolling block is it? Is it a swede?

I found both 110 gr and 140 gr projectile loads, using CFE BLK, that do not exceed the 30k PSI limit I have always used when doing reloads for rolling blocks.

I agree it is a fools project. But sometimes it is interesting to work the issue until it is rejected.

Still not there.

Yes it is a swede that was rebarrelled to 30 British.

I suggest just running a 30-30 reamer in it and reduce the chances of trouble. Also gives you a rim to make extraction easy.

That said, I didn't look up all the pressure data for these. No doubt less than the one it's chambered for now.

the 30/30 a good option. And I forgot the rim. tks for the catch.

I have an preowned .308 F class barrel that mystic precision sold me. I can turn that down and re do the threading.
Still be lots of barrel left.

I should say the 300 barrel is only 14" long, from the reciever end of a blank.
so maybe the cool factor was in my head.

Does anyone have any interest in the short barrel? it was on a savage action.

190 grain Hornady Sub-x loaded with CFE Blk or H322 would generate about 18k PSI and be a hoot to shoot.
