300 aac blk help!

I just got my foster reloading dies this week to start reloading .300 AAC.

How do I expand the .221 fireball case mouth to .30cal. I've run one case through the die and it only crushes the case it does not expand. Do I need something else to do the job???

Does the dies have a 7mm expander ball included? Normally, it's a 2-step procedure. Expand the case necks to .284" and then to .308". Destroying cases is not unheard of while doing this. Are you using siing die wax or conventional case lube?

How about your dies. Are they full length re-size dies or neck size only?

Have you considered making your own cases from .223 Rem's?

Nope only the .30 cal ball. I guess thats my solution then. to get a 7mm ball.

I dont have a trimmer to deal with brass fast enough so I bought a bunch .221 fireball. I use dillon case lube. and the dies are FL.

You need a couple of Redding tapered expanders, one that goes from .22-.27 and one that goes .27 to .30, I used Win. .222 brass.

If you decide to make your cases from .223 you don't need to even bother with the tapered expanders. Making cases can be laborious but it's certainly cheaper than buying .221 FB cases at $.60-$.70 each.

If Gravels would just get off their lazy asses and import Remington factory brass, none of us would have an issue. I'm totally at a loss why they've refused to support their own product.

Definitely look at using 223 brass, so much cheaper. Doesn't take all that much longer either once you've got a routine that works good. Not to mention its only the first sizing that takes longer.

The process I use to make .300 Blacout brass from .223 Rem. is as follows:

(1) Cut the neck of the case off at the base of the shoulder. I use a dremel tool because that's all I have.

(2) I clean up the rim of the case by trimming and then chamferring.

(3) Take the expander assembly out of the sizing die and then size the case with plenty of lube to make the effort easier and reduce the stress on the bras as much as possible.

(4) Put the expander assembly back into the sizing die and re-size the case to exact dimensions.

(5) Trim the case to minimum OAL and re-chamfer.

Like I said, it laborious. If you had a Dillon trimmer and trim die set-up, it would make life a whole lot easier. I'm going to order those items in the next couple of weeks. I can use the trimmer for other cartridges I shoot for so I see it as an investment well worth the money.

I've even thought of importing a large amount of brass myself and re-sell it to individuals like ourselves who are shooting the Blackout. I'm truly pissed that Gravels is not going to support a Remington product.
