300 blackout Stevens AICS chassis

Not sure if this is news, but this is from the front page of the Savage website:

300 AAC Blackout Chambering Cancelled:

Some time ago, Savage announced it would be chambering the Model 10 Precision Carbine in 300 AAC Blackout. Since that time, we have tested many variants of this cartridge in various barrel lengths and rates of twist. This exhaustive testing left us quite unsatisfied with the accuracy we were able to get from the subsonic loads in this chambering. Accuracy with the lighter, faster loads in this caliber was actually quite good. But we believe the real value in this cartridge lies in the use of subsonic loads for suppressed rifles. Therefore we have decided to scrap the project.

It is our understanding that pushing these heavy, slow bullets presents challenges not found in typical loadings and that our experience is not unique. Subsequently, many in the industry have simply adopted a lower standard for accuracy for these subsonic loads. While this does seem reasonable and we don't criticize any in our industry that have taken this approach, it just won't work for Savage.

Our brand was built on accuracy and we are too protective of our reputation for building the most accurate factory rifles available. We would rather walk away from this opportunity than sell a product that requires an explanation.

^^^ It's been ot for close to a month now. As far as I'm concerned it's unmitigated BS at its finest. Lots of guys with .300 Blackout Savages that don't have an issue finding relatively decent accuracy. They're basically telling the shooting world that their engineers (?) can't duplicate what's already been done for over 25 years now. Makes them all look incompetent.

Their reasons are likely related to the fact no one wanted a factory 20" barrelled rifle in .300 Blackout with a 1:10" twist so they piked up their ball and walked off the playground. Not to mention that there was a recent change in SAAMI specifications to 1:7" twist instead of the original 1:8". Savage would have been so far off the mark that it wasn't even "on" the curve, let alone behind it.

It's 2bad4them though. ;)

762x39 is considerably worse for accuracy. I did a lot of work with subsonic 762x39 and it never left me satisfied. In a bolt gun you'd need the special bolt face used by that round which is a PIA to get.

The two best choices for short barreled 30 cal rifles are 300 BLK and 30 BR. I'm going to do a 30 BR next as soon as the reamer arrives. That caliber has a great deal of accuracy potential.
