I really don't see the appealling of this round in Canada. We can't hunt with ar and we can't have suppressor.
You can have a 300BLK in other platforms, it's not limited to just AR's. I have two non restricted 300BLK rifles and one restricted. I hunt with mine and you don't need a suppressor to enjoy the round.
Every round available would be better suppressed from 22LR all the way through 50BMG not just 300BLK. The round wasn't designed to be shot suppressed, it was designed to be used in an AR platform rifle with no modifications other than a barrel swap. It was designed to cycle the action of an AR with supersonic and subsonic loads making it more versatile in changing combat situations, you can run lighter supersonic loads then with just a magazine change you can run subsonic suppressed and be quieter and carry more energy than a suppressed 9mm. It's about versatility not just running a 9 inch barrel suppressed.
The appeal of 300BLK to me is that I get to load for and shoot something interesting and different. The round is very versatile in that you can shoot 110-130 grain projectiles which are very close in performance to a 7.62x39 but you get a round that feeds properly in a modern semi auto that was originally designed for 223 and is also more accurate than x39. Then you step up to the mid weight supersonic loads that pack enough energy to easily take a deer or really hammer the gongs at the range. Then there are the mid to heavy subsonic loads that are fun because they are a lot quieter than supersonic loads even without a suppressor and also hit the gongs hard. Loading for the round is also very easy on your powder supplies as it is typically around 20gr of powder per cartridge.
In every weight projectile available the round is accurate (much more accurate than 7.62x39), so far of the four 300BLK rifles I've owned (sold my old AR upper when I finished building the one I have now) there has only been one rifle so far that I haven't found a sub moa load for and that's pretty much only because I haven't done any load development for it. I just use rounds I built for my other rifles and it's shooting around 2 moa so I'm content for now.
These are all 300BLK and only the AR in the middle is restricted. The other two go on long walks with me wherever I want to take them and are fun around my acreage with subsonics because they don't bother the neighbors as much. The Rem 700 in the AICS chassis and the ACR will both shoot the same 155gr A-max load into less than an inch at 100 yards.
