the father-in-law is looking for a scope in the $300 range and I'm looking for opinions on which ones to really consider. I personally have vx-1,vx-2,bushnell 4200, zeiss hd5 that he looked through and to him it wasnt a big difference in clarity between them all. I know hes not picky and doesnt care for all these adjustments and features so im just looking for a reliable hunting scope that he doesnt have to fuss with. He is gonna be putting it on a browning BLR .308 this will be his second year hunting and he doesnt shoot much. I'm not to impressed with my vx-1 it sits on a .22 now. I found a couple vortex's scopes on sale diamondback 3.5-10x50 for $250 and a vortex viper 3.5-10x50 for $399 any opinions?

There was a Leupold VX-3 1.5-5 on the EE for $325 a few weeks ago.
Great deal and perfect for your application.
Keep your eye out those deals come up now and then but you need to move quick as they don't last long.

If he is not into fussing with stuff, what about a fixed 10x?

I have used one on a weatherby in creedmore for a while with great success. Bushnell tac. They go for around $300

That would be a tough scope to beat in that price range, unless for some reason he wants more magnification. Either way, your buck bangs harder on the EE. Buy used.

Thanks for the input again and I can definitely steer him in the right direction with all the suggestions given.. ultimately it's his eye looking through it not mine and it's his wallet paying for it not mine lol. I'll let him know about the equipment exchange on buying used
