I've always thought the .300 Holland & Holland was about the coolest magnum ever. Since my friend won't let me have his near-mint 721, I may look at building one. What actions will be long enough to accomodate this old-timer?
Besides being ridiculously cool, the H&H will give me a performance level well above my requirements, so I don't need to hear about how the WSM, the WinMag, the Lazzeroni, the SAUM, the Ultra Mag, etc are better or more practical choices. They don't appeal to me at this time.

Pre '64 model 70. or a
Browning FN would make a nice one
Or maybe even a Sako L61R

.300 H&H came factory in all these...

rem 700 no mods required. 300 H&H is a cool calibre. i'm waiting for my 375 H&H to be finished. i think its cooler than the ruger375. that long sloping cartrige just looks right.

If you are looking for the best bang for the $$ look for a M-17. Just needs rechambering, bolt face work and a bit on the feed rails. For others besides the ones already mentioned anything already in 375 H&H that needs a new barrel. A Ruger M77 in 300WM or 338WM can also be made to work with a bit of smithing.

Got to disagree, the best bang for the buck is any magnum M700. No mod's required, just screw on your H&H barrel and you're done. I did once own a M700 classic 300H&H, and it worked well.

If I was building a 300H&H I'd probably use a M70 classic magnum action. It's 30 minutes work for a smith to have it ready for the H&H case.

You must have a source for the action and barrels at near free. Around here, your way of doing it would cost a tad bit more then my suggestion. Let's see Bubba'd M-17 in decent shape with a good or better barrel $100-200. Rechambering and other work $150-200. Total up and running 300 H&H conversion $250-400. Before you say it can't be done. Yes,it can and I have one headed to the Smith in the near future. Priced as quoted.

My old 300 is a Fabrique Nationale Mauser. It has an similarly old Bausch and Lomb Balvar 8A scope in Kuharsky mounts. I am really dating myself, with this one. :D

The 300 H&H is a great hunting cartridge. It feeds like butter and mine will put a magazine full under an inch all day long, every day.

sounds like you would still have a rechambed bubba in 300. if i'm putting a nice custom together i would want a new barrel and sythetic stock of my choice.remignton actions can be found at resonable prices

Was talking best bang for the $$$. Now if you want to build one,and don't mind spending the $$. Why use a Remington in the first place, when there are Sako, and FN M98s out there to be had in the right lenght? Nothing wrong with a Steyr either.
