any of the major manufacturers chambering this one? whats the best bet. saw a pre 64 m70 and it was super nice, but the stock was cut down so it didn't fit me properly.

Browning has 300 H&H in there current line up, I think I seen epps had one. X bolt,
Prophet river has a very nice cooper, in stock.
I just swapped my Ruger #1 300 H&H, for a M700 in 300 H&H, as I wanted a lighter rifle and a repeater,
Been a few used 300 H&H, in the buy and sell section, of late.

like the old classics, and love the heft of the old rifles. much preferred to this lightweight junk that seems to be the rage these days.

My 300 H&H is probably the most plain - Jane one ever made, a 721 Remington.
Bought used in ( I think ? ) 1968 it is one of the most accurate rifles I have ever had.
All original right down to the bedding, never had anything done to it and it still keeps practically any bullet weight used around the magic inch.
My Son has a very nice Pre-64 and my Brother had 5 or 6 as well as a couple Browning Safaris, all shot very well but I still prefer the feel of the old 721 not to mention that its a pound or two lighter.

In that case you answered your own question.
Keep looking for a Mod. 70 Winchester , they do come up once in a while.
Guaranteed you will not regret.

yeah, couldn't believe how nice that old m70 was. i take it the old brownings were nice too?

Likely only Cooper (not really a major) and CZ was under their Safari Classics line.

One could build a fairly affordable one on a Vanguard .300WBY. The mag box would be long enough it would just require a rebarrel.

Yes, the old Brownings were / are a very good quality rifle, really well made.
My Brother had one that was exceptionally accurate, it was his choice for Sheep hunting.
I have one in 375 H&H that I will never part with..

Why are you on here talking... go get it... you won't do better than that... a new stock is easy.

I'm sure you will luck out finding one, I've seen them around. I ordered mine 1 year and 2 months ago....still waiting. The 300 H&H is a beautiful cartridge. Moderate recoil, plenty of load development recipes, flat shooting and great velocities.....I've owned one a Ruger #1.
