Yes it would. I would love to see a 300 H&H with a light contour barrel and featherweight stock.
And Ruger has an H&H in the #1 African series stuff and that is it right now.

Forget Winchester mate...The crap coming out of the factories these days is unacceptable for something like a 300H&H build!

If you want something done right do it yourself.

LOL, you might be right. Or I could keep my eyes open for a nice old M721 to show up on the EE....

Any suggestions for a action and barrel to build it on just in case I can't wait

Pre 64 or (even better) Dakota 76, Chromoly tube, rust blue, with some nice wood but not over the top.

Been thinking about it for years cause to be honest I am getting sick of synthetic stainless.

There's a Brno 602 action in the Access listed for $600. That would be a great platform for a custom .300 H&H. Of all the .300 magnums, the H&H makes the most sense.

You could also look around and try to find one of the Rem M700 Classics. I got one from SuperCub a few years ago and it's a great rifle.

The 300H&H is a superb cartridge!

CZ does chamber 300 H&H in their Safari Classics line. It's a great cartridge but those Safari Classics rifles are a little pricey.

A Zastava / MarkX / Charles Daly / Rem 798 Mauser (FN Clone) meant for the .375 would a good option for a .300HH build, surely?

I think Midway is selling them for $279.

"...hunt is on for a donor action..." Look for a long magnum Rem 700. .300 H&H is pricey stuff. And not easy to find.
