300 HH shoots low

Not just you….

Unknown distance, with a rifle not shot at a known distance to check actual drops, and the OP thinks it was hitting low and wants to rule out it being the rifle by asking strangers on the internet what the trajectory should have been….

Can’t make this stuff up….

And maybe buy a Laser Rangefinder as well... money well spent for long range hunting...
 
Nothing like lobbing rounds at game at unknown distances with unknown trajectories with Kentucky windage...was somebody spotting for you? You were spotting your impacts?

Actually, the 300 H&H was faster than the 30-06 velocities from back in the day. The current 30-06 offerings are a lot quicker than they were a century back. The same efforts have not been put into the 300, sadly. - dan
 
OP. Glad you’re enjoying the gun. I sighted it 1” high at 100yards with old 180 grain silvertips. Was about -5 that day in southern Ontario. At 330 yards I was about 12-14” low. Was ringing a gong and hitting hard. I miss that gun already.

Hey , how’s it going, ya I love the gun but obviously haven’t put the time in to playing with it yet, like I said it groups nicely at 100 so there’s no real reason it should be a scattergun at longer ranges. Just me and or how I’ve got it set up likely. I just wasn’t expecting what I saw there. I’ve got a great range available out here , I’m going to buy a membership and get out there. I have no real illusions I’m going to be shooting at anything over 500 yds and probably not like to be shooting that far very often. I just want to know the set up is capable in case I need to. I didn’t think to pm you and ask how it shot for you. Glad to hear it seems to shoot.

If I learned anything from Douglas, it's that anything is possible with a sufficiently long drop tube!

I just never wanted one because it seemed everyone had one and I was out on the prairies and grew up with my fathers 7 x 64... Okay recoil wise and quite flat shooting... Never owned a 30-30 either, always considered it a useless rifle in my world.
 
I read every word that Jack O"Conner ever wrote and was 64 years old before I got a 270. Now to shoot it before I die. I had a 30-06 308 300 HH or Winchester so never seen a point of owning one.
