300 prc

I'd ditch the 338 and go either 300 prc or wm. If you want to shoot heavy bullet go PRC if not then the WM is hard to beat.

Won’t make any difference what so ever in hunting situations! People get worked up with all of the different calibers/cartridges, but in reality berry little difference it makes in games!

I've had about twenty different 300 PRCs, its an outstanding cartridge especially if you want to shoot long range, as others have said for hunting it really is comparing apples to apples,

the only real differences between the 300 WM and the PRC is no belt, tighter tolerances on the reamer specs, and its throated to shoot heavy for Caliber bullets,( you can have the same done to a 300WM) most factory rifles have a faster twist barrel, if you go the 300 PRC get an 1-8 twist barrel, in the end think of the 300 PRC of a modern designed 300 WM,

If you love to target shoot and maybe want to shoot long range as well as hunt and hand load a lot, the 300 PRC starts to outshine the 300 WM for a few minor reasons.

300 win mag designed/introduced in 1963.......300 PRC designed/introduced in the fall of 2018,

If all your doing is just hunting inside of 2 or 300 yards hell go .308 Winchester as its going to do everything you need and you have more factory ammo options than any other cartridge on the planet burning half the powder.

WF says : If all your doing is just hunting inside of 2 or 300 yards hell go .308 Winchester as its going to do everything you need and you have more factory ammo options than any other cartridge on the planet burning half the powder.

You really MEAN the 30-06 Don 🤪👍
Well as you well know Jim I don't like the .308 Winchester.......but in all reality it's a great cartridge, the 30-06 is just that much better as well, it really is hard not to like a 30-06.....soon as I can I'm going to neck up a 6.5 PRC to 30 cal !!!!

my first year hunting I shot an elk a deer and a moose with Parker and hale .308 with a cracked wooden stock and a foggy 4x scope so its more than capable !!

My cousin hunts hard and also rams targets out to 1000m for fun, always been a 300Win guy, he's pretty into it, always custom barrels.. usually buys 2 at a time cut the same, Lapua brass, loads with gloves on kinda serious lol.
Got a 300PRC, same route, didn't find much difference really, the extra 15 or 20 grains heavier vlds may get a hundred meters at the extreme end of the usable range of 300Win with 208grs and 10 twist, but that's getting into 2000m range kinda games, way more issues hitting things there then a couple BC out of the bullet lol.
He did find the recoil sharper with the PRC, more barky then the 300Win push he was use to, likely due to higher pressure loads though.
For the belt vs no belt argument, makes zero difference in loading accurate ammo...none at all, everything is off the shoulder after first shot with the brass, pointless to even make that argument lol.
End of the day they run pretty close in velocity with similar heavies, depending on the rifle one may be faster then the other.
He went back to 300Win, the 300PRC is probably the most redundant of all the new PRC/CM whatever Hornaday trying to sell you.
