Wondering if anyone has any information regarding Rem 300 SA UM vs 300 WSM, like accuracy, barrel life or any other experience you may have with either. Thanks. Ken G Kyle

The saum may be a tad more "effictient", but the 300 WSM will outlast it, for sure.
My 300WSM is a great long range cartridge.
I load it with 200 grain bullets, 210' 200'3 etc for shooting at 1K, but I have also shot it at 500 meters and 200 meters with 165-168 bullets with excellent results

The 300 RSUM is on it's way out, go for the 300 WSM for long term component availability and increased performance.

How long either one will last has not been decided. Neither really do anything new, they both were developed as a marketing ploy trying to invent something new to sell.

There also may be a patent problem with the Winchester line and royalties may be required - that is in the air still ...

Personally I wouldn't own either but that is just me...

X3! Why get a wannabe when you can get the REAL thing?
And Remington has 100% discontinued the caliber for 2007. I guess that in itself says something.

The best calibers have been around a lot longer than me. Personally I don't want to be the one trying to find one better, someone else already has, I can just enjoy shooting them calibers now. guess I'm old fashioned that way.

The 300 Winchester Magnum is one of the premier long range rounds. If you compare velocity and kinetic energy at any given distance to its competition it still comes out ahead.

This is the only reason that the M24SWS was built with the Remington Long action so that the rifle could be switched from 308 to 300 very easily.

The 300wm is an incredible long range performer!

300 shorts new package old performance.

They are just new versions of the older 300 wm and the 300 wm will kill a large bull Elk at 200+ yards no problem. (BRAG BRAG I still havnt got over it LOL.) Why use another replica. They are just a trick to try to part people from their money. It wont work on me i dont have any LOL.

The 300wsm is designed to be used in a short action. If you use heavier bullets (longer) in the short case the velocity will start to lag significantly behind the 300wm. The longer bullets will impinge on the powder capacity. However, when lighter bullets are used there is more room for powder. Bullets in the 150 to 180 grain weight can be shot at comparative speeds of the 300wm. This is also acomplished with less powder. The way I shoot that translates into more barrel life.

So, has anyone tried a 1 in 12 twist on a 300wsm?

I heard alot about the WSM as having more efficient volume capacity than the reguler magnum caliber like the 300wm, but I would go with the 300Wm anyway just because it easy to find ammo, and also there are many data out there that would accomodate for Reload, I was looking in to getting something build for the 7mm Short mag, but decide to wait for one of the Rem700PSS in 7mm rem mag, with the 162 grain Amax Hornady, this would make an exellent long range round!...

Long range shooters use a different throat on their rifles so we are not inhibited by bullet length.
My rifle is na single shot so I am not worrieed about how many it holds.
As farr as marketing ploys go, I am not affected by them as I do not buy new rifles or factory ammo.
It waqs the case I wanted to try out, and it works well.
Better thhan the 300WM? Likely not, but every bit as good as , for sure.

Go to the Remington Site and see how many of their rifles are now chambered for the WSM round versus the 300 SAUM. Check with your local gun shop to see which round they stock the most of.

Good point horseman2 ...

Ain't it strange how Remington doesn't like to chamber rifles for
it's own cartridges anyway ??? Lot's, I'm sure would like to buy
a 280 Remington in anything but the one and only available
700 Mtn. DM and I'm sure the 6mm Remington wouldn't be almost
dead if it, the 260 and 7mm-08 and 280 were offered in the 7400
(now 750) and 7600 lines ...but what do they do ...
chamber for 243, 270 and
Winchesters !
