300 RUM Ammo

I load up a 180gr accubond behind 91gr of RL25. I just found out on the weekend that my average velocity is only around 3160.(unless the batteries on the chrony were low). I had no problem hitting a 2l bottle sized stump at 1035 yards. I shoot a sendero 300rum.

the scirrocos are pretty tough. i put a 180 thru the shoulder of a bear and recovered 146 under the hide on the oposite side. it was a close shot from a 300wsm apox 50 feet. its the only scirocco i have recovered. they usualy pass thru leaving lots of internal damage.

Well I wasnt getting any response in the Ammo Thread, so I thought I would try it here....

Got my moose license for this fall here in N.B. and was wondering what you guys think would be the better bullet....180 Gr. Swift Scirocco Bonded or 180 Gr. Core Lokt Ultra Bonded. Yes i know both will do the job and then some but do ya think one would be better then the other for Moose?
They also offer a 200 Gr. Swift A-Frame but i already have lots of the previous 2 mentioned so the 200 Gr is out of question.

The Swift Scirocco has the best ballistics on paper, but we all know that doesnt always mean the best "on game" performance. I'm pretty set on using the Scirocco's.

Are you reloading them or buyin some?? I've got a 700 police, and the federal 200gr partitions shoot really good out to 800.

either will work fantastic Wonsky! I have never shot a sirocco but the bonded core lokts (150 grain) I shot into dry newsprint at 308 velocities at 50 meters opened very wide and did not penetrate as deep as an accubond or partition. it was almost identical to the interbond with over 90 % wt retention and was something like 0.85 inches in mushroom diameter. My impression is that the core lokt ultra is not a "deep diver" but at RUM velocities it should smack the swamp donkey pretty hard.

I shoot a Rem 700LSS and my loads of 94.5gr of RL25 chrony at 3340fps avg. So your chrony must be ok! And I like the accuracy I get out of the 180 Accubonds. Last year I actually recovered 2 bullets out of 2 whitetail bucks. Excellent performance. The year before the same bullet dropped a big old cow moose from 366yds after she took 3 steps. Total pass-through, double lung shot.

I still want to try the 200 Accubonds for accuracy sake. Their higher BC really makes them a super long range bullet.

My own rifles produced 3340fps with the 180gr ballistic tip ahead of 95gr or R-25,so your velocity sounds about right.Accuracy with the 180gr ballistic tip is easily sub 1/2"at 100 yards with the Gaillard barrel, and around 1/2" with the Pac Nor barrel.

The 180gr TSX ahead of 93gr of R-25 produces 3380fps in my rifles, with groups averaging 5/8" at 100 yards with both rifles.
