300 RUM Loads

if your just going to use someone elses load your no better off than shooting a premium factory load. The part that makes handloading rounds better, is tuning a load to your rifle and cheaper cost. Grab the bullets you want to use, look in a load manuel, pick a powder and start load development. In the 180gr and heavier catagory of bullets most people I know use Retumbo.
On the contrary, starting with a bullet and powder combination that works well for somebody else in the same rifle is certainly a smart thing to do.
You should work the loads up yourself though rather than go with somebody else's max.
I've had good luck in my Sendero with:
RL 22 and 165gn Nosler Accubonds and Ballistic Tips
RL 25 and 200gn Nosler Accubonds
both of those loads used Rem. brass and Win. magnum primers.
I couldn't get US869 to do a thing for me.

Same here.
Yep. Hornady 208gn AMAX's and Berger 210gn VLD's. I pretty much only use Retumbo or RL-25 in my .300RUM.

I found that Retumbo gave great accuracy (as do RL25 and H1000 as others report), but US869 produces the highest MV at what appear to be lower pressures. Accuracy was near as good with US869, but I'd like to do more work before I dismiss its use - in the 300 RUM, I think you need a full case (slightly compressed) with the 208gr, and it might shine most with the heaviest bullets, i.e. the 240gr SMK.

Except it's not the same rifle.It may be the same make and model,but the barrel and chamber may even have been cut with different reamers and broaches.Tools wear out,and are replaced on a regular basis.
My own 300RUM rifles both liked R-25 and either the 180gr Ballistic Tip,or the 180gr TSX.
I'll be interested to see what you can accomplish with US869. It should be an ideal powder for the 300 RUM but I couldn't get a decent group with it at all in my limited testing.
I know what you're saying but it's common for the 'same' rifle to like the same or similar loads.
Your chances of finding a decent load for a rifle are higher if you start with a combination that works well in the same model rifle. The barrel harmonics should be very similar.
It's a good place to start rather than reinventing the wheel.

Personally I would just grab some 200gr nosler accubonds, and a few pounds of retumbo. I would start with the bullets 0.01" from the lands, if that fit in my magazine, if not load to the COAL from the reloading manual you also have. I would start with loads of 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95gr. Likely 5 shots of each and pick the best grouping. Then I would load three each of that load and a half grain higher and lower, pick the best and go with it. I run 95gr of retumbo in Rem brass with a cci mag primer 0.01" off the lands.
There isn't much for 30 cal hunting bullets with a higher BC than the 200gr accubond, although the 208 amax, the 210gr berger and the 240gr sierra MK are higher. The bergers are sensitive to seating depth and you may have to play with them quite a bit to find a load that works. If you want flat shooting out to say 350-400 yards find a decent fast load the 130gr TTSX, there is nothing significantly flatter available than the 130ttsx from the RUM.
