As far as spending 40 bucks every time you take it out goes, it is a hunting rifle and cartridge and there are much more cost effective options for a fun day at the range.
Can't speak for the other poster, but my Remington 81 has peep sights which are far from on. So, I would expect to spend a couple boxes just zeroing them ... and then to gain any effectiveness over 50m, significant practice, when compared to a scoped rifle.
I'm not complaining at all, but iron sights require more practice than scopes, which equals more money spent.
