Hi
what you guys think about this 300 savage mod 1920 in mint condition. Actually, this one probably never fired any rounds.
She was made in 1923 according with the serial. Wondering how much these goes today in this condition.

Nice!
one of my favourite calibers. I saw a nice one in 250-3000 at a show recently with a $1000.00 price on it.
300 Savage was only around for a couple of years when your rifle was made.

I've got a Savage 16 bolt gun in the same caliber as well as a few 99's.

With my bolt action in 300 Sav, I've got a load worked up with a 150 gain bullet that comes real close to 308.

I'll take it. Can't help you too much on value, but I suspect those in 250-3000 would command a premium over those in 300.

Wow that is in pretty neat shape!! I guess the right guy would pay a few bucks for it. I am certainly not the one to guess on her value though. I've got a very well worn early model myself, in 250-3000 serial # 10xx,

Wow, that is an early one seeing as how the 1920's started at 1000.

Condition brings the prices, not the caliber. Although if both guns had the same condition the 250 would most likely bring the premium.

Here's my entry, made 1929, almost the last 20/26. Mine is what they call a 20/26, Savage made the stock heavier and the bolts were drilled and tapped for a Lyman #54 peep sight. There have been earlier models seen with the bolt peeps as well but these were an addition back before the 20/26's, then they were factory standard when the 20/26's came into production. I've also seen 1920's that came with no checkering.

I already see a couple posts that disagree with what I am about to say. The early rifles (pre 20/26 variation) were, for the most part, 250-3000. They did make a few in .300 Sav but they just weren't that popular in such a light rifle. Hence, the .300 Sav in those 4 digit serial numbers is rather rare. Conversely, the 20/26 variation came about in an increased weight rifle to absorb the recoil of the .300. There was just too much competition from other rifle manufacturers for the 1920 to survive. In the 20/26 variation, the 250-3000 is the rare one. To answer the question as to the worth of the rifle in the OP, if I lived in Canada, I'd give an arm and a leg for it...............................;);););)
