300 Savage vs .308

I own two 99's in .300 Savage as well as two bolt actions in .300 savage.

The bolt guns with the stronger action will duplicate .308 ballistics with a 150 grain bullet from my experience, and with less powder.

I've got enough new and fired brass to last me a lifetime, keep an eye out at the gun shows.

I also have a collection of vintage factory ammo if someone is interested in buying it all, 6 or 8 boxes.

I make my .300 brass from .308 also. One of the first steps is FL resize in .308 Small Base die. Then into the .300 die and trim. Makes feeding in my Models 99 better.

Good post, Darryl! Using a Small Base Sizing die is definitely good insurance for sure chambering.

Fortunately, my standard sizing die worked in my old twenty inch 99 Carbine, so never needed one.

For 30 years I used a Savage Super Sporter in 300 Savage for moose, deer and Elk.
Dropped everything I shot at.
It's a helluva round.
My old girl sits in the safe now only to be used at the range.
Shoulder is bad so I've moved onto 350 Legend and my 30-30s.
They drop everything I shoot as well.
Under a 150yds I'd use my 350 Legend no problem.
Hit like a truck.
