Alright guys and gals, here's my question:

I recently bought a Savage model 99 in 300 Savage with a few boxes of 180gr remington ammo. I checked out hornady, winchester and remington today and hornady doesn't even make the stuff. Remington and winchester do make it but remington has discontinued the 180gr and is only offering the 150 gr. Winchester offers the same. Does anyone know of a company that i can buy 180gr cartridges from anymore? It's a model 99E and i don't really know anything about savages. So i don't know much about when it was made but i'm pretty sure the older guys used to use 180 grainers around here and maybe i'm just picky but i think the rifle was probably designed for 180's so maybe i should stick to those. Thoughts anyone? Thanks

i used to use nothing but remington 180 grain in my savage ( that is after i used up the hundreds of rounds of dominion and imperial i got with the rifle . even then i think they only came in 150 and 180 grain bullets ) .

until i started to handload then i found that nosler 165 grain balistic bullets where a perfect fit for my gun .

when i bought the gun ( i was like 12 at the time ) what stood out was being told to use 150's on deer , 180's on moose and bear . with factory made ammo i think that still applies .

when you start to handload a whole new door of possibilities gets opened up :D
 
Well - Whatever you do, hold on to your brass. If you dont reload, you can sell it. Alternatively, you can befriend a reloader, all you need is a 30$ set of dies.
Finally, stores like Ellwood Epps have a large selection of old ammo...

I'm definatly going to hold onto my brass. I know of at least one other CGNer i might be able to sweet talk into reloading for me if i buy the dies. I still got some credit at epps so maybe i'll get them to send a set up to me.

I'm still spending to much money on guns to start reloading yet :) but when i do get around to it i'll try those 165's. Thanks man.
