300 ultra mag vs 30-378 weatherby and 338 ultra mag vs 338-378 weatherby

A 300 win mag is more capable of long distance shooting than what 98% of the shooters and scopes are capable of...
An Ultra mag or 30-378 will not magically improve your skills, the recoil will most likely worsen them.

Thats why I can't see burning an extra 30-40grs of powder? But whatever floats your boat

In my book under normal hunting conditions, 4-500 yds is ultra long range. 7-800 yds is stunt/slob hunting/shooting or just plain BS.

I use my 7mm for shooting coyotes at over 500 yards and i also use it for moose hunting either over a big marsh or along the edges of a lake. I dont find the recoil of the ultra mags to be that bad especially since mine fits me properly. Mine will group at 3 1/2 inches at 500 yards from a rest if i do my job correctly and judge both the wind and mirage. I also use my own reloads and the trigger is tuned down at a very crisp 2 1/2 pounds. I didnt plan on buying the gun and had planned on a 7mm Rem Mag but it was only $550 NIB and it was left hand. Now that i own it i wont part with it and plan on buying all of the RUM calibers at some point just becasue i like them. Mine is a Remignton 700 BDL look a like casue it was built by the remington custom shop and the fellow who ordered it passed away and nobody else wanted it so they had to move it. The action is class bedded, the barrel is free floated with a scope and a bipod. I woundnt take a shot at a deer at 500 yards but i would at a big bull moose or a coyote.
