Just wondering if anyone has had success using high BC/VLD bullets in a 300 Weatherby? I am throwing the idea around of trying the 178 grain ELD-X or the 190 grain LR Accubond. I have heard people talk about the freebore in Weatherby rifles and how it is not ideal for these longer bullets. I wanted to hear about some first hand experience and whether or not you were successful or not. My rifle is a Vanguard Backcountry model. Thanks for your time.

VLD bullets are hard to get to group good unless seating bullet touching lands or jammed a little, not a good thing for a hunting rifle.
I would use the Nosler accubonds/IMR 4831 for 165gr and IMR 7828 for heavy bullets, work in friends 300

Hunting. I have two long range target rifle builds that I use out to 1050 yards so this isn't a pleasure shooter. I just want to maximize this Weatherby should I ever require to take a long shot on an animal.

Here is Berger's thoughts on how to get accuracy from their VLD bullets.

I have used a 300 Wby for many years of hunting on several continents and on game ranging from Suni to Eland and moose. I have tried several bullets in the 165-200 gn range and have settled on the 200 gn Accubond in front of RL25 and a CCI 250 primer. This bullet shoots very well from my 700 and it's terminal ballistics are outstanding right out to 600 mtrs+

You can make VLDs work with jump, I've got 210s at mag length in my mark 5 with 0.120" of jump shooting sub moa. Took Some testing but I went from minute of absolute garbage to sub Moa. Sure the velocity isn't through the roof but I can still use the box mag and shoot accurately

The other day I was sitting around splitting a Pile of hairs, as is my habit and suddenly and unexpectedly ran out. Naturally I panicked, because that had never happened before. The best I come up
With with short notice and little sleep was Douglas' .300
Weatherby. Got to wondering if a .300 with the bullets seated 1/2" longer and all the trademark Weatherby free-bore eliminated and incapable of feeding through a Weatherby rifle is still a .300 'bee or something else? .300-4"? .300 Douglas
Improved? .300 +P?
