Good Morning...Need some good advice.
Yesterday, I and some buddies were sighting in the rifles before our upcoming hunting trip. One of the guys had his .300 Weatherby Mark V, which he purchased used last year.
He shot 3 rounds, and as he went on, the bolt became extremely stiff to open. He shot a fourth one, and gave it to me to eject the empty brass. I must say that the bolt was very hard to open. Holes on the target are scattered somewhat ( grouping was about 4 inches...not good at 100 yards). The bullets are commercial Federal 180 grains.
I examined the empty brass, and saw something I never saw before. Just above the belt (about 1/16th inch) was a noticeable ring all the way around. I felt same with my nail, and one can feel a "raised" ridge all the way around the ring I described before. All four were the same.
I told my buddy not to shoot it anymore, as I felt this rifle is not safe to shoot.
Any ideas what the issue may be with this rifle?
