.300 weatherby mag

my buddy has a .300 weatherby mag mk5, 1961, very nice condition. he's wondering what it would be worth. he received it from an estate, and doesn't know much about it. he likes it but it doesn't fit him properly, and would like to know what he should ask for it. it has a bushnell 3-9 scopechief with a pop up post on it. i know that this isn't a whole lot to go on, but this is second-hand info, and its all i've got since he is away for work. thanks

This would be a West German built. Value is around $1000-1300 depending on condition.

Lots of changes with Weatherby Mark V's in and around 1961.

Someone knowledgeable about Weatherby's need confirm whether this one
is based on a M98 Mauser, ...Southgate (CA) or contracted out to Sako (Finnland) or whether its a J.P. Sauer (West Germany)
