I would like to start hand loading rounds for my 300 wby magnum (never done reloading before) im hoping to get something thats as flat shooting as possible but still be able to reach out a fair distance weight wise. Id also like to know a good powder to use in it. My grandfather shot almost exclusively 220 grain hand loads sighted in at 400 yrds id like to get the weight down a bit and get some flatter shooting tips or a die?

Any suggestions welcome i havent even decided on a reloading kit yet so fire away.

also is there anything i can do to take the 120 or so 220 grain hand loads i have apart n redo them? when my grandfather got up in his age i dont think he was putting the same amount of powder in each of the shells.

200 is a great weight in the 300 Weatherby. 180 would be about ideal for more reach but the 200 doesn't give much up to it and retains more velocity and energy at distance than the 180. Going lighter that 180 with the 'Bee is counter productive, unless you're only looking for big MV numbers.

If you already have a press then Hornady and RCBS make good press mounted pullers. The grip and pull also uses a press....check that out on youtube....could give you a handy fix it idea. The projectiles are valuable and reusable so dont damage them.

Cheapest and most common puller is the inertial ones. Would be a royal PITA to use for 120 cartridges.

300 WHBY what will you be hunting mainly. If it's moose either the 180 or 200gr are great, smaller such as deer you can go lighter. This caliber is heavy on recoil and not for everyone, so beware it's not fun off the bench. I have one and put a muzzle brake on it, the 200gr using H4831 is nice for moose.

I have a couple 300 Wbys and have hunted over most of the planet with one of them. I used to use a 200 gn Partition and still do sometimes but mostly I use a 200 gn Accubond now. After exhaustive load development to attain the highest possible velocity and still maintain good to excellent accuracy I have settled on a load using RL 25 with a 200 gn Accubond seated to just short of touching the lands, a CCI 250 magnum rifle primer and fireformed W-W 300 H&H cases. You will not find a powder that will improve on velocity for the 300 Wby than RL 25, I know, I've tried them all...........

I don't believe in using this load for this critter and that load for that critter..........I use this load for everything from duiker to eland, or blacktail to bison in NA nomenclature............

I'm using 180 Hornadys and 180 Partitions interchangeably in my .300 Roy. Not surprising it works, much like it worked in factory loads since forever. Mine stubbornly refuses to shoot boat-tails. Irritatingly that lets my not nearly so picky scrawny little WSM it catch up to the fire breathing Weatherby by 500 yards. Not sure if I'm happy or pissed about that. ;)
