300 weatherby

Actually RJ, the 300 RUM will add 100-150 fps on the Bee........I have both and load both and can tell you this for sure. However the recoil goes up exponentially in the same weight rifles.........and the same make.......700 Rems of course !!!

All these big numbers and my latest 300 wm can barely break the 3000 fps mark with 180 s and imr4831. Unfortunately it shoots amazingly at 2925 fps with 72.2 grs.
At least she's soft shooting lol.

My Mark V in 300 Wby has a 26" barrel, and is an easy 180 gr at 3200 fps rifle. The past couple of weeks, I have been wringing out a new entry-level 300 Win Mag with a 22" barrel. It is coasting along at 3060 fps average with 180s and H450, and weighs two pounds less all up. :)

Have you ever played with the 30-378Wby? Seems like it will push the 30cal pills pretty good. I imagine recoil and muzzle blast wouldn't be much fun...

Not sure if it was designed, or accidental, but the Weatherby mags seem to be right at the point we're performance meets excessive recoil, muzzle blast, and here today gone tomorrow barrel life.

I have Rums, and the 30-378 is even a further step. So if you want to play, develop, and shoot regularly. Then your going to continue doing it.for.a series of barrels.

Just to edit...I mean u get a lot more recoil, blast, wear when you go above Weatherby. Very little togain past Weatherby. YMMV

BB..........If you want to turn on that 300 WM with 180s, try some IMR 7828.
Can't find it locally and shipping is just stupid for a pound
Next time I'm in Lawrys or humassons ill pick some up. On the other hand I've shot the best groups I've ever shot with a 300 loaded with imr 4831. I keep it on hand for my 25/06. Of course that may change when I re barrel.

The closest I've been to getting scoped was with one. Hit my shades hard but didn't quite bite me. Buddy said try my new toy. I asked the caliber not the cartridge. I was expecting a 300 wm level. I was unpleasantly awakened. Lesson two learned that day is muzzle blast can and will smash a taillight

I toyed with the idea of the weatherby but went with the 300 wm for several reasons. First is they're not my first choice caliber for bear or deer. I don't hunt moose yet but that's another reason I bought a sporter rifle in 300wm. Secondly is price. The win is a cheaper rifle because I'm perfectly happy with a savage 110. The wby rifles are a finer gun no doubt. However handing a $2500 rifle and scope to a buddy to hunt with is harder than handing them a $850 package. I've lent both of my savages in 300 wm to buddies on numerous occasions. The recoil is something they can manage. Thirdly brass is easier and cheaper generally. Fourth is since I bring them as back ups mostly ammo can be bought just about anywhere

If the rifle would have been used as a primary hunting rifle for myself I'd have gone with the wby. Most likely the lazer mark and I'd have had the action and rings case colored

Where I hunt 150 yards is a far shot and a rare one at that. Most shots are less than 60 yards and the last few were measured in feet. 2 shots were less than a rifles length away
Now if I hunted the mountains or Prarie lands 257 wby and a 300 rum back would likely be the ticket

Best advise is buy one of each and decide which you like best

Yea Doug i know that BUT the 300 WBee is Kooler ! :dancingbanana: Just like the Recoil of my 338 RUM over a 338 Win Mag - its a LOT MORE ! ;) RJ
