I recall having read on here that people were getting 3k with a 200gr partition in the 300 win mag. Curious what powders you are using. I tried 84 and 85gr of retumbo in a 24" remington and averaged 3025fps for the 84gr load and 3115fps for the 85gr load. Shot this in -35C. I'm having a hard time finding more retumbo and would like to know what you've had success with if you use the 300 win mag and the 200gr partition. I was not shooting for group size or anything. Just wanted to see what kind of speed I'd get.

I've not tried 200 grain bullets, but I get an honest 3165 fps with 180's out of a 24" bbl using RL-17. It may be worth a try.
I think that the .300 really comes into its own with 200 grain bullets driven as fast as possible. I have had good luck with 200 grain Grand Slams and H1000 and IMR7828. Retumbo should be even better with its slower burning rate.
