looking for an accurate round for my 300 win mag. will be shooting mostly deer for now, maybe elk later. most shots will be 100 - 300 yards. shot some cheap fedral 150 grain speer hot cor at the range today, 2.5 inch group at 100 yards, barley on the paper at 200. scope is tight. please help!

There is no way to predict which loads will be the most accurate load in your particular rifle. You need to actually test various loads by firing them in your gun to find out.

what kind of gun and what kind of scope? does it seem like your adjusting your scope for nothing? meaning say you go 4clicks up and the POI doesnt change so you go another 4clicks up and then your super high?......If so your scope is poohed.

What are you using as a rest? are you shooting from a standing position? Bipod?????

lots of things other then the load can make crappy groups

shooting from prone position and a bipod. scope is adjusting properly all the time. i finished off shooting a box of the same speers from a different lot # and they were bang on all the time, 1" group or better. new box of ammo and wham, crap grouping. remington 700 sps with a bushnell 3200 3x9-40.

try the Federal Fusion 165 grain, its usually quite accurate ammo in the guns I have tested it in, and the bullet holds together nice for the cost of the ammo it is

Personally, I've had bad luck with Federals - well bad luck with the premiums anyhow. I'd test out a Remington and a Winchester load too, and different bullet weights. For example I have a .30-06 that really only seems to like 165 grains.

I find that my 'bench shooting', i.e. with the back of the stock supproted with a sandbag is better than my prone with a bipod shooting. It is likely you are a better shot than I am, but if it'd been me shooting those 2.5 inch groups I'd bet the gun and load combination is good for 1.5 inch, which a lot of people would be happy with for a magnum hunting rig.
