.300 Win Mag bullet choices & loads...advice?

Well, a quick scan of reloading cabinet revealed that I have part canisters of IMR 4350, IMR 7828 and Reloder 19. I'll start with these, and likely whatever 180 grain bullets I can obtain locally. I will definitely be experimenting with the Barnes TSX at some point too.

Thanks again to all of you for your excellent advice - I intend to try many of the loads you've all suggested as I get those propellants and bullets in stock. Should be fun! I'll write back with my findings.

Ignore my last post, something went wrong! But either way see if there is someone you know with a couple of different powders that you could try just a couple of rounds with instead of buying several pounds of differant powders and having piles of powders laying around after you have found your sweet load. Or unless you do a PILE of reloading for other cartridges and will use them up somewhere.

Sorry about that, 1899, I misspoke. The 165 grain bullets I use in .300 are Nosler Ballistic Tip Hunting (a little cheaper, no less accurate). The Accubonds I used were 180 grain (more expensive, jury is still out as to whether these are better than the BTH for accuracy). Same powder load for both. If Nosler made the Accubond in 165gr., I'd use it. Their 150 gr. seems a little small.

As for both of the previous loads, longest shot for me so far is 600 yards on mule deer. My friend who also loads for .300 win with a similar configuration has an 800 yard kill (one shot...I was there)) on a mulie buck and he's going for 1,000 this fall. An 800 yard with this loads requires at least a 6 foot hold over. (and fortunately a standing broadside mule deer buck).

I'd like to see what distance one considers 800 yds!
