H4831 and the 180 is THE classic combo for the .300 Winchester Magnum. There is one thing you should be aware of, however.
Older lots of powder (i.e., powder from about 6 years ago and before) were slower than the current lots. The classic load with older powder that works in almost any rifle is 76 grains of H4831 with a 180-grain bullet.
Hodgdon now lists 73 grains as Max for the newer lots of powder, and that is a true maximum. The newer lots are much closer in burning speed to IMR 4831 and, not coincidentally, 73 grains is perfect with IMR 4831 and a 180-grain bullet.
So if you're using a newer batch of H4831, stick to 73 grains or less with that bullet.
