I am looking for a load for the 300 win mag
New Winchester cases
Winchester LRM primers
Hornady 200 ELD X
Rifle new Z98 Mauser
Powder H4831sc question mark

It would be great to hear from others about how they made out with similar loads

Thanks :)

Both my Tikka T3V and Thompson Center Venture love 200 (and 220) ELDX bullets, powder of choice is 70 gn RL 22, second choice is 67 gn of IMR 4350 but its a distant second
I stopped using magnum primers - just use cci 200 primers-magnum primers increased pressure too much - both guns shoot less than .5 MOA with the loads
I have also used 67gn RL22 with 220 gn ELDX, CCI primer, Remington Brass and it is an even more accurate load but you did not ask about 220gn

Thanks so much
Not sure why we went with H4831sc when RL22 is the obvious choice.
We bought a box of Hornady 212 gr ELD-X but was unsure if if the long taper on the forward part of the bullet would be close to being in the case. So we went with the 200 gr ELD-X. The magazine box seems to be the limiting factor for COL.

You are correct about magazine being limiting factor - it results in bullets being seated deeper than I would like but accuracy does not seem to be affected - you can always single load - one reason my Ruger 1 is awesome -but still not as accurate. Another very accurate bullet if you are not into long range shooting is the old hornady 220 round nose - you can seat these way out and still clear the magazine and they will kill just about anything in North America
Btw the bullet length of the 200, 212 and 220 Eldx is virtually identical - I shoot all three and seat them the same depth -the 200 seem just a bit more accurate

Highland,
If you could post your results with the H4831 I would greatly appreciate it.

Im new to reloading and not sure where to start with powder (already purchased H4831 regular cut, not SC)

MY Recipe thus far:
NEW Winchester brass
Winchester LRM primers
Hornady 200gr ELDX

Platform is:
26" bbl in a 1:8 twist
Browning xbolt long range HC.

Its my understanding that the Hornady Manual recommend loads are with a 24" test bbl. So I was going to start at the lower end of the chart (61.9gr) and work up

Just not quite sure what increment to do so at... recommendations?

Thanks in advance to all who have input.

The best load i ever made was 75.5 gr reloader 22 with 180gr nosler ballistic tips . Max charge so be careful if u try it. But it shot one hole out of my steyr rifle at 100yards .
Then like an idiot i tried that same load with a monolithic and almost blew up my rifle lol. so dont try that either.
but the above load worked awesome..

I have had a 300 win mag for 20 plus years and reloaded for it with lots of different powders , My own personal opinion is rel 22 is the powder to use , with any type of good quality 180 grain bullet. The barnes ttsx is awesome usually as well . just make sure you follow there manual .
300 is hard to beat for an all around cartridge

I’m a bigger fan of h1000 in my rifle. I’m hitting 3170fps with 180gr accubond and it shoots great. It’s also way more temp stable then rl22. I was working on a load of h1000 and 215gr Berger hybrids that was showing some promise but I can’t remember the load off the top of my head. I’d like to try some rl26 but that stuff is impossible to find.
