300 win mag.

So I bought a 300 win mag

A Left hand Carl gustaf.

I want to reload for it.

I want to start with light loads, from what I've seen I can use 130 gr. bullets
I bought a box of 130 gr speer hollow point #2005

From looking at the chart, I have 2 of the powders that will work in the loads, IMR 4831 and 4064.

I'd probably want to buy some other types of light weight bullets.

110gr gmx. Never hit game with it but it was very accurate. My last 300wm was the slowest one made. I could never reach published velocities. I would like to try another sometime. The gmx held together well from recovered bullets from the sand backstop

Many moons ago I shot nosler 125 BT’s from notes under Rl19 and 4831. I don’t remember anything more other than how fast and hot it got the barrel and how long I waited between shots.

Eventually, when you want to try some 180's, you'll find 70 gr of IMR 4350 will likely print very well, if not excellent, from your rifle.

Of those two powders, I would start with 4064.

I have found that the 125 gr Sierra to be very accurate.

I wonder about the bearing surface of those small bullets. To fly well, they need to have pointy noses. To seat well, they need to be long enough to engage the rifling. They seem contradictions.

When I was shooting 300 WM at game on the Prairies, I never went below 150gr bullets and settled on 165s or 170s. They did well enough for me with good terminal energy on deer. But, I have told this story before, I lost an antelope when the Berger X bullet punched through and through without deforming or stopping it. The little guy scampered off and was probably coyote supper a day or two later. So, always shoot good expanding bullets at things you need to kill.
