what grain bullet to start with in a 300 win mag with 1 in 10 twist?

Hunting or target shooting. For hunting depeding on game I would use a 180gr for a good balance of everything. For target shooting I would go with rick and say 200-210.

I am curious as to why the lighter bullet for game?
I have found I get less meat damage with the heavier jacketed bullets on light game, also the heavier bullet retain energy and velocity longer than the lighter bullets.
Just wondering what your theory is?

Since I have a large supply of 190 grain Sierra MK Moly bullets, I use the 190 grain Hornady BTSP for hunting. Sierra shows the accuracy load as: RE-22/ 70.4grs. 2900fps/ 3548ft. lbs. and then proceed to 72.7 for 3000 fps. My hunting load uses 73.0 and they both shoot to the same POI at 300 yards.

I use 180 gr X bullets in my 300 win mag they shoot very flat out to 350 yards. the 180 gr X is more than enough bullet unless your after grizz

A quality 150-165gr shoots very flat and killed everything I've pointed it at.In a .308 NM a ballistic clone....1-12" twist........Harold

My favorite .300 loads consist of a 200 grain bullet - usually a Speer Grand Slam. It has accounted for more game for me than almost any other.
