300 Win or 35 Whelen

So is your #####, are you going to get rid of yours?

That is funny man....but the question that begs to be asked is, what do you base.....oh never mind, you know ;):D

I don't have a 35 Whelen, nevertheless it has a huge cool factor, does the 300WM?....I didn't think so.:)

I'd pick the 35 Whelen if I were going to have one or the other...I have a 300 Win...carried it for 12 seasons..it was the only big game rifle I owned at the time. I took about 8 head of game with it and the longest shot was lasered at 140 yards...every thing I killed with that 300 could have easily been taken with a 308 Win...I haven't carried the 300 for three years now.

I think it's dependent on what situations you actually kill your game in. Both of these rifles will kill anything you want of course, and under most conditions as well. The 35 would be a better choice if your game gets tagged mostly under 200 yards (bigger bullets) and the 300 if your game gets tagged mostly past 200 yards (flatter shooting and better energy retention). Out of these two cartridges, I'd go with...whatever the rifle I personally liked the most was chambered in.

.35 Whelen. I like to eat what I shoot, (not pick through bloodshot bone chips) and I don't need to buy premium bullets to make it effective. It is perfectly effective with 2''-4" less barrel than the big 30's, with less muzzle blast ( i want to preserve my hearing, as much as I have left, anyway) and a 250 gr. .35 shoots right through moose and elk ( I also like exit holes)
I have 3 .35 whelens.

I've had 5 or 6 whelen's and a dozen or so 300's,I'd take the whelen any day.Inside 300yds the whelen is a stomper especially when you load up a 250gr@2500-2600fps.If you tend to shoot past 300yds then the 300 is the better choice.
