300 winchester mag

Hello,

Interesting post, I wanted to respond given I own one in Rem 700 Sendero, and a T3 tactical tikka. I read some of the other replys many are good a few are just bad advice. My rifles both shoot sub MOA, I don't have a break on either, I encourage you to run a variety of ammo in different specs as it is, to see what works best out of your rifle. A little homework checking the twist rate and some research may aid in narrowing then field.

The caliber itself is a proven effective, given its hard punching and has a relatively flat trajectory. As a hunting rifle you will find you won't chase down deer, my friends call it the "pop! Boom!" Effect. If you get a good shot, not many animals can run after getting smoked by that projectile.

I use my tikka for competitions, most would say its not ideal. I agree, but given I reload already for hunting it works for me. It's expensive even reloading. As far as installing a brake is concerned you need to appreciate what brakes are intended to do, they lessen recoil, it will enable you to better manage recoil to keep optics on target through shot release. From my experience in the military the large calibers still take sights off target, so the desired effect isn't perfect. That doesn't mean you can't load ammo to match settings or research newer brake designs that may effectively manage magnum calibers.

I congratulate you on a fine choice, have fun. Let us know how you make out.

Cheers

J

Thanks for all the info great read of all the different ideas I leaning towards not putting a muzzle break on cause I know the noise it will produce I did add a decent recoil pad already and the rings are steel as well my eye relief is 4 inches so it should do fine. The reason why I bought that caliber was a few game animals where stepping out on a few cut blocks I hunt at 800 yds I been shooting for years so I don't think the recoil will effect how I shoot been doing this long enough. I do shoot a 30 06 and a 12 gauge single shot rifled shotgun as well that shotgun kicks Like a mule but is good out to 200 yds fun to shoot but had to put a better recoil pad on as well and a decent scope. If I can Load a few pics I'll let you guys know how I did once I get out thanks again all..
