Hi there,

As the title implies I am looking for reccomendations on 300winmag reloads.
I have a tikka T3x varmint that is going to be my moose gun and want to work on some reloads for it. I am new to reloading so please bear with me if I ask any stupid questions.
I've decided on the projectile I want to use already (200gr Hornady ELD-X) and am leaning towards H1000 for powder but nothing is in stone.

Thanks in advance!

POOR choice in BULLET for the 300 Mag for HUNTING ! JMHO ! a Nosler 200 gr Accubond is a MUCH better Quality constructed bullet as is the Hornady Interbonds if you can find any ? Also a Nosler partition would be a BETTER choice ! H1000 is a good powder BUT slow FPS with the 200 gr - H4831 or H4350 or RL22 - RL26 are BETTER choices ! as said JMHO RJ

All those tikka rifles shoot , should be easy.
Pick a book load out of the hornady manual and try .
Min to max.
H1000 will do , GIVER NUTZ.
R.J loves those boolits... trym out.
More os a barns guy.. but in a 300 win mag,IT WONT MATTER. BANG FLOP. Happy loading

Timely post. I am currently working up a couple loads for my wind bag.

190 gr Nosler AB LR and a 210 gr. Nosler AB LR.

Trying different grains of N560 for both.

Like RJ said I would lean more towards a bonded bullet. I use H4831SC and get 2950fps outta a 24” barrel. Could probably go a Little hotter but I like staying middle of the road when I’m getting good accuracy. Nosler have always been good to me.

You might have a hard time getting enough H1000 under a 200gr bullet in 3.34" Tikka mag box to make decent pressure/speed

Nothing wrong with the ELD-X for hunting and they excel at longer ranges ( FYI they do have an interlock ring) . With regards to powder H1000 will work for sure but you may consider H4831 /H4831SC (meters better) as it will give you very similar velocities with 6-8grains less powder but a bit more pressure. This would be of advantage when loading the longer bullets especially if your magazine is short with regards to COAL and won't allow you to seat a bit longer.

Your rifle will undoubtedly tell you what it likes most. But with regards to the performance of the ELD-X there is no issue.

I know several guys who have tried the ELDX bullets in various weights and calibers, nobody will ever use them again on game. The standard Hornady Interlock flat base is an excellent bullet, my 300 WM's shoot the 180 MOA or better with 7828, this combo will work on anything that walks this continent.

I reload for a 300 H&H mag. So, my case capacity is about 5% less that the 300 Win. Mag, maybe slightly less than 5% with the longer bullets in the 200 gr. range. I use the Nosler Accubond 200 as my hunting bullet. I have not had good luck with the ELD-X as a hunting bullet in other cartridges, at high velocities. As far as powder goes, my best results in the H&H have been with IMR 7828SSC.

This works for my 300 WM:

74.9 H 4831
180 Hornady PP
Mag. Primer

71.5 IMR 4350
180 Hornady PP
Mag. Primer

IMR4350 + any 180gr bullet has worked for me in a few 300win rifles, even some picky ones. It's as close to guaranteed as there can be i think. There was a reloading article in one of the magazines at one time saying the same thing, although I had discovered it long before then. The downside is 4350 won't quite reach the velocity that 7828 or some other powders are capable of. With a 24" barrel it was in the 3050 fps range.

I reload for a 300 H&H mag. So, my case capacity is about 5% less that the 300 Win. Mag, maybe slightly less than 5% with the longer bullets in the 200 gr. range. I also reload for my 300 H&H. All my rifles are pre-64 Model 70's and that makes it easy for me. I get the same performance from the 300 H&H compared to my 300 WM with less powder. As far as case capacity I see no difference between the two. The 300 WM loses a tad of space with the short neck but the difference between the two is not worth mentioning as they're both number one with me.
