I'd assume its possible to rechamber a 300 win mag barrel to the 300 ultra chambering, but would the action the wm is built on be long enough for the ultra cartidge? If it is, what kind of modifications would have to be done to the bolt for this conversion.

Why Not? got me thinking about this when he mentioned rechambering one of the Steven's in 300 wm to 308 norma mag, which of course is easy. So, I'm just wondering if the ultra conversion would be possible? Even if it were possible, would it be cost effective, or is it just cheaper to buy a factory 300 ultra?

well you would probly have to get a new bbr but y would you wont the ultra mag?????
do you have a spusific need for it..... the reason i say this is Ammo is WAY more expensive, the Ultra Mags Eat through bbrs, and the 300 wm will kill anything that a ultra mag will kill.
but if you wont the UM it would be cheeper to get the new bbr for it :D
talk to ya all later

LOL, why not get have a RUM, if I was worried about cost I wouldn't have more than a 30/06, as that would cover everything I hunt. I'd like a RUM, because somebody came up with it  I don't "need" more than one rifle, at least in some people's eye's, but the way I see it I need every rifle I can get my hands on.

I was thinking the same thing Dan, but I know there are some women with really good attitudes about boys and their toys, so I didn't want to say that. However, I'm still looking for one of those open minded ladies

what i meant is i WANT ALL THE RIFLES IN THE WORLD!!!!!!
MINE I SAY!

but not before teh freakin CFC sends me my freakin PAL

I think a CDL in .300 RUM can be had for under $800. Wouldn't it be more economical in the long run? Unless of course you want/need something different.

You can get the Remington 700 SPS for a bit over $500. It is nothing fancy, but comes with a 26" barrel and synthetic stock.

River Rat got his from SIR for $499. It consistently puts 180 gr Woodleigh Weldcores into an inch at more than 3300 fps. 8)

Ted, I gotta say that sounds a lot easier than doing any kind of conversion. I didn't realize that the SPS was chambered in 300 RUM. It's deffinately something I'll have to look into. I bet that SPS sure kicks like a mule though

Thanks Ted

Yes, and by the time you purchase a Stevens 200 and pay for the rechambering job and the magzine work, I'll bet you will have spent considerably more than the SPS costs.

Garry says the SPS has a very good recoil pad, and that it recoils about the same as his 358 Norma.
