Hi.Lookng for factory loads and hand load recipes for a Browning stainless stalker 23IN barrel in .338 wm and a ruger m77 in .300 win mag 24 in barrel.I know each individual rifle will shoot differently but I am looking for a baseline to start with. Both calibres are new to me.First hunting season in the Yukon coming up.Thanks.PS.I used nosler accubonds down south for mulies, whities and elk in my 7mm mag and my 25-06 and loved them. How are they in the .30 and 338 cal's.

With a 7mm magnum I see no need to add a .300 unless its a super deal on a rifle you really want, the .338 steps the performance up considerably. I haven't had any personal experiences with the .338 Acubonds on game but they work well out friends .300 wsm's and I'm hoping to try them from my .30-06, I'd certainly use them if they shoot well.

No experience loading for the .300, but when I had a .338 I settled on 68 gr. of IMR 4350 with a 250 gr. Nosler Partition. Right on the nose @ 2700 fps in a 24" barrel.

For the 300 I've had good luck with 73gr of IMR 4831 and Nosler 180gr Partitions (Protected Points shot better in my rifle than standard Spitzers...YMMV) and CCI250 primers.

I've used many powders in my .300 Wins but have settled on H1000 and my stash of Norma brass for all of them. Its gotten to the point that I'll just load 80 grains for 180s, 79 grains for 190s, and 78 for 200 and 208s and just take a new rifle to 500. A fraction of an inch one way or the other at 100 yards doesn't mean much. Its so easy that its boring. Even more boring when I can't see what magical thing bullets over 180 grains are supposed to do for me in a .300 hunting rifle. Or lighter for that matter. 3050 fps in 24 inch barrels and 3150 in 26s.

I've less time invested in the .338, but have had very good luck with IMR 4350 and 215-225 bullets. More recently I've been stuffing the case with 7828, partly because I have a ton of it.

In the 338 Win Mag, Reloder 19 is your friend.
In at least 5 - 338's I have owned, it has delivered best velocities and accuracy with bullets from 200 to 250 grains.

When I went Bison Hunting, I took my 338.
77.5 grains of Reloder 19 behind the 225 Partition. [2933 in a 24" tube]
2 shots, two dead bison, one at 165 yards, the other at 410.

The 300 is quite versatile, and likes many loads.
My best loads have been with the 180 and 72-74 grains of IMR4831; or 74-76 grains of H4831; or 75-77 grains of Norma MRP; or 79-81 grains of H1000.

I do all my loading in Winchester brass is possible, although the 300 Win Mag brass from Remington has been good as well.
I do not reload Federal brass if I can avoid it.

FWIW, I have yet to own a 308 Norma Mag or a 300 Win Mag that will not shoot moa or less with a load it likes.

Regards, Eagleye.

In my Sako 75 338 Win Mag I use 77.0 grs. of Reloader 22 with 225 Hornady spire point bullets and 76.0 grs. with Nosler 225 partitions for an average of 2880 fps. with these 2 loads.

Federal blue box 225gr 338s work pretty good on game and shot really well in my vanguard. When I still had my 338 my meat and potatoes load was H4350 under a 210ttsx. I carried that load in the mag of my 338 around the Yukon and northern BC when I guided there.

Your space bar isn't working.
"...looking for a baseline to start..." I've always found the accuracy load in my Lyman manua lis a good place to start. As with any rifle and factory ammo, you'd have to try a box of as many brands and bullet weights as you can afford to find the ammo your rifles shoot best.

My go-to load for the .300 Win Mag is a bit different. I use 76.5gr of H1000, F215 primers and a 220gr Partition. This load has been great in a few rifles, but may be warm in others. In my Mauser 96 (straight pull 1996) I went up to 77.0gr but backed it off for better accuracy. The chronograph shows an average of just over 2850fps out of a 24" barrel. This makes you good to go out past 300 yards and that big old Partition works very well indeed.

H4350 and RL19 in the .338. I prefer H4350 and the 210 TTSX and the 225 Accubond.

RL22 and H1000 in the .300 are go to's now. The 180gr TTSX and 200gr Accubond are great choices.

Factory, I always buy and try Fusion first. They are great bullets, and accurate for the cost.

In the 300 WM I have had best velocity and accuracy with 180s and 200 using IMR 7828, CCI 250 and W-W cases.......bullets used were either Parts or ABs. RL 22 is a very close second and is supposed to be less temp sensitive. Sorry no use for 338 WM but have loaded for a couple buddies and got excellent results with lighter bullets (200-210) and IMR 4350, CCI 250 and W-W brass.

For 300 winmag, using 180 grainers, I tried IMR 4350, IMR 4831 and RL-17 and found RL-17 gave me about 100 fps more velocity with lower pressure signs and crazy great accuracy. I can safely get 3165 fps with 180's and they shoot more accurately than I can, less than 3/4" for sure.

For many years my .338 win mag load was 70.2 gr of IMR 4350, CCI #200 primer, Win brass and 250 gr Sierra Gameking. The gameking is a very accurate and very tough .338 bullet, with a high BC. Pentration was tremendous.
