OK so I had some trouble with high pressure with some of my hand loads. I was 1.5 grains under max load at 69 gr IMR 4350 with a barnes tsx triple shock HPBT 168gr. When I seated the bullet I went with the COAL in the barnes book of 3.340". I was told after that if I seat the bullet to close to the rifling that there will be excessive pressure build up. When I got home I took an empty case and just barely neck sized it so I coould take a bullet and just barely push it in with my fingers, then leaving it really long I slowly chambered the round pushing the bullet in until the bolt would close. Then I opened the bolt and I am getting a measurement of 3.505". I have double and triple checked using this procedure and am coming out with the same measurement every time. So my questions are:
1. do I have a problem with my heaspace on my rifle if the recomended max cartridge length is .165" shorter than my "chamber length" ?
2. would this .165" bullet jump cause excessive pressure?
3. would it be dangerouse to load with a .010-.020" jump, and exceed the maximum recomended cartridge length as set out in the manuals?
Thanks, Mark.

Barnes recommends seating the TSX .050" off of the lands as a starting point. If a cartridge the length that provides this .050" will fit your magazine, there is no reason not to try it.I ended up seating .050" to .070" with the TSX and the TTSX to achieve the best results in my rifles.Seating .010" to .020" off of the lands does not normally produce the best results with the TSX.

Not sure bout your free head space but I load mine OAL @ 3.395 in 165gr of ballistic tips and partitions @3.345 without any signs of over pressure but I keep them just close to 2900 f/s and .050 of an inch from rifling or lands

Excessive jump will not cause to rise in pressure, my .2 cents

Drop to starting loads and not to push the limits if in doubt
