300 wm recoil

I would say the vanguard I have in 300 win recoils a bit more than my t3 lite in 308. There's about one lb difference in the guns. I was originally very worried about buying a gun and not being able to handle the recoil of it. I guess that's what the ee and description lnib is for though.
Stocks seem to play a very important part. I think the vanguard stock fits me better than the t3 stock.
 
I was shooting a 300 WM Sendero last year and used it for hunting. Standing shots were no problem at all, never even felt the recoil. Working on the bench was a different story. I was using a slip on pad for bench work, I would take it off for hunting.
 
When I first fired my Winchester EW in 300 win, I found it thoroughly unenjoyable. It is over quick as mentioned above but from the bench I just couldn't master shooting it properly and accurately. I decided to get a brake installed on it. First trip to the range and my shooting was worse!! Then I read on here about perceived recoil and noise. I upped my hearing protection, tweaked my scope position/ height for a better cheeck weld and immediately noticed I could shoot it no problem. The noise was affecting me more than the actual recoil. I was at the range just a few days ago and fired over 50 rounds without any troubles at all.
 
First time I fired a 300 win mag I was expecting knock you over recoil. Having the most powerful thing I had fired before was a 30-06. Yeah, it's not a 22 and it lets you know your shooting a gun. But it's not bad at all. Almost disappointed lol. Some day I would like to try a heavy recoiling rifle, I think it would be fun lol.
 
I put together a precision rig with MDT chassis around a tikka t3 stainless HB action. The first couple range sessions were pretty painful especially with the MDT skeleton butt stock that has no cushion. I then had a gunsmith thread the barrel and install a Precision Armament M41. Now it is a pleasure to shoot all day. The people beside me hate it though.

Have shot a 300 WM with a brake on it (can't remember the make of the rifle) and recoil was considerably less than my hardest kicking 30-06. I just acquired a Browning BAR and a Savage 111 in 300 WM that don't have brakes on them that I felt a little bit the next day after 20 rounds with a t-shirt on. I'd compare it to a Marlin 45-70. I find it is quite manageable with a "hunting weight" rifle. I don't particularly like brakes on hunting guns simply for the sake of my hearing, although I think they are a great tool for people who want to use them. I just prefer to train-up to handle recoil and ensure I can still shoot it well.
 
.300 WM is a ladies gun...



If my wife ever decides to start hunting with me, I'm going to start her out on a .300 WM...
 
No magnum cartridge is pleasant in a T3 although in standard calibers I quite like the gun. A buddies dad had a laminate T3 in .338 Win mag split the stock from shooting when it was new. Harold
 
My non-hunting seldom shooting daughter was out quadding with me out where I have my range. It went sort of like this.

M. Yep.

D. Will you turn them?

M. Yep.

D. OK.

So anyway; cold start, 7 out of eight hits. Nothing to it.
