I'm getting ready to load some 300 WSM with Berger 168 VLD's and would like to try the Hodgdon Superformance. I cannot find any reloading data for that combo. Hodgdon shows 2 loads with 165 gr. bullets, Honardy GMX and Nosler Partition, with 69.0 gr. and 72.0 respectively. I load the VLD way in the rifling so the COAL is 2.945" which gives in return more room for powder. I not looking for other recommended powder combination as I already tried these: H380, H414, H4350, RL 17, RL 19, IMR 7828, etc... I'm seeking maximum velocity with good accuracy for hunting purposes only. So far, best result awere achieved with 65.5 gr. of H4350 which gives 3150 FPS, very consistent velocities, accurate and it's in the Extreme Powder series so less temperature variation.

Looking forward for feedback. Cheers!

Load for the bullet weight. Who made it or its construction doesn't matter. The 165 grain data will do though. 3 grains won't make any difference.

The're must be a reason why Hodgdon specifies MAX load for 2 bullet type! One must generate more pressure. I loaded a few rounds with 70.0 Gr of Supeformance and went shooting this afternoon. Results are impressive : Average velocity was 3195 FPS from a 24'' barrel with muzzle break. Group size at 200M is very good too with about 1.25'' so 5/8" MOA.

RL17, 66.5 grs 168gr TTSX, 3235 fps
RL15, 58.5 grs 168gr VLD, 3k fps

66.5 gr. of RL17 that's 3.5 gr over the specified max load from Berger for the 168 VLD Hunting! With 63.0 gr of RL17 and Berger 168 VLD hunting I got an average of 3050 FPS, it was very accurate but too low velocity for my hunting purpose.
