.300 wsm and/or .300 rum

Hi everybody !

OK, in one or two years, I want to buy a hunting rifle...

for .300 wsm...
I think about Kimber classic8400stainless or browning blr(for cheaper choice..)

But for the .300 rum I look for Rem.Sandero II.. or .. I don't know...
Do you have other idea ?

What do you think about these two calibers ?
How it costs to feed ? (commercial ammunition)

The big 300 mags are not a good starting point unless you want to develop flinchitis. .270 Win, .280 Rem, .308 Win, .30-06 Sprg will kill most game that needs killin'. Light enough recoil to hone your skills and cheap ammo around to practice too.
 
I have the wsm in Browning Stainless Stalker & I have the 300RUM in a Remington 700 Laminated Thumbhole Stainless.
I really enjoy both, but I'd have to say The RUM is way nicer to shoot then the WSM due to it being heavier. I find the wsm to be very saucey(due to lightness of rifle) but would be an awesome caliber in a wooden format!

With that said....Ammo for the Ultra Mag is gonna run you quite abit more $$ then the Wsm, and the RUM aint something you wanna carry around all day like the boys said(unless you have a lightweight RUM, which I highly DONT Recommend)

Hard Decision...So do what I did...BUY BOTH!!:D
 
Like everyone else, I'd reccomend a standard 30 cal rifle over a magnum, unless you have very specific hunting needs that require that extra power. A nice 30-06, in a comfortable and reliable rifle, is VERY hard to beat for an all-around hunting rifle. And it will cost you way less to shoot and give you more enjoyable trigger time at the range. Most shooting sessions with a RUM at the range are about 6-8 rounds in my experience, while with a 308/30-06 a fellow can enjoy shooting a box or more without starting to flinch or have a sore shoulder.

No....it's really not. Nice gun, WRONG cartridge.

You have some very experienced shooters giving you advice here, and it would be a really good idea to listen to them.

A 300WSM in a 6 lb rifle is a whole lot of pain packed into a compact package....period.

I own/have owned every "magnum" from the short mags up to the 375 RUM, and I can say that they are largely unneccesary...and in most cases do more harm than good.

I am in a position to shoot whatever I want, both experience wise and financially, and I choose the 308 based cartridges (7mm/08, .308, .338 Federal) now....and for good reason.

Seriously, I know as a young/new shooter, you firmly believe that your #### will fall off if you don't hunt with something that has "magnum" stamped on the barrel, but trust me.....it wont.

At the very least, buy a box of WSM's and borrow a rifle for an hour. Shoot 4 five round groups at four seperate targets....see what happens by target 4.

You cant shoot a gun well that you are afraid of....and trust me on this: A 6 lb 300WSM is a gun that WILL give a newby a flinch....and a flinch is WAY easier to get then to lose.
