I have a 300 wsm ( Weatherby Vanguard )that is giving me a bit of grief. The sized brass is very tight and the bolt is hard to close. They have been full length sized with ample lube in the neck in order to prevent the shoulder from stretching out.

The brass is nickel plated. I have used it with another rifle ( Savage )with no issues at all.
1) Should I switch to plain brass ?
2) can I set my die differently ?
3) Will this improve once the brass is fireformed ?

Any and all advice accepted.

You need to bump the shoulder back slightly more. I had the same issue. I had 2 or 3 shellholders for the wsm, and upon measuring the thicknesses, they were all different. I used the thinnest one and the cases were sized better.

If you only have one, you could polish it a bit. The idea is to get the case slightly further into the sizing die.

blargon has gave you spot on advise, I struggled with the same issue years ago and blamed the dies.

Sometimes with certain magnums i turn the die down hard on the shell holder to make good contact to get that last little bit of bump on the case to free it up. The WSMs, SAUMs and RUMs have shown this to me while reloading for them.

Thanks. I just tried lowering the sizer and pushing the casing as far as possible. She loads a pile smoother with the shoulder set back a bit more.

I should of known.

Thanks boys
